Feb. 6, 2024 Shut Down

The plant will have power disconnected between 8 am and 5 pm Tuesday, February 6, 2024 to install a new generator.

This means that all pressurized* service locations will be without water during this period.

*Pressurized locations at or above the Circle Drive plant location.

Once service is reinstated a boil water warning will be in place until 5:00 pm Friday, February 9th.

It is advised consumers stock up on drinking water prior to this event to last 4 days (day of loss + 72 hours after return of service).

If using tap water thru Friday, February 9th, the CDC, EPA, and DOH urges consumers to boil all drinking water a full minute. https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/emergency/drinking/drinking-water-advisories/boil-water-advisory.html

Reminder: tap water used for brushing teeth, preparing infant formula, mixing powdered or reconstituted beverages should be boiled first.

About System Interruption

Whenever the system is interrupted and there is a loss of water, harmful bacteria may enter the system. Should you experience a loss of service, contact Water and Wastewater Services LLC of Mount Vernon at tel:3606300970 to report the loss unless you were previously notified by a door hanger. Once service is reinstated, a technician will collect a fresh sample and transport it to the lab in Bellingham. There, the sample will be cultured for no less than 24-36 hours to determine whether there is any presence of harmful bacteria.

Because our water is treated, the likelihood of harmful bacteria is low, but still possible. As such, regardless of receiving a notice, should you experience a loss of water longer than 10 minutes, report it to Water and Wastewater and then boil all drinking water for the next 72 hours.

Discolored Water

After a loss of water, there is a good possibility water will be discolored. This is caused by sediment. To flush your pipes, run water from an exterior hose bib until it runs clear. Next, go to the faucet at the furthest end on the incoming water and run the water until it clears. Continue this with all interior faucets.
